Microneedling

Microneedling is a procedure that has grown in popularity due to its anti-aging effects. It was
originally found to benefit the skin by increasing collagen production and therefore creating
smoother, firmer skin. Microneedling has since been used for hair loss treatments after years of
successful trials.

Using a roller, small needles will be poked along the treatment area. When the small
‘micro-wounds’ heal, the area is forced to create more collagen and fibers, ultimately strengthening
the surrounding hair follicles. Microneedling not only helps to strengthen hair, but it has also been
shown to help with better absorption of any products used on the hair thereafter. For example, dry
hair that receives microneedling treatment may experience a better response to conditioners and
hair masks.

Microneedling is both convenient and a non-invasive procedure. There is minimal post-care
and requires minimal to no downtime. The only thing to be careful with is direct sunlight following
microneedling treatment. Sunscreen and hats are recommended for healing following the treatment.
Effects may be noticeable within three months, however most patients see the greatest
changes between 9 months to a year. Follow-up treatments are encouraged in order to receive the
full benefits of microneedling. Generally, about six treatments allow for the best outcome, but
everyone is different. Some people may be satisfied with their first treatment, and others may desire
several touch-up sessions.
